John Maus - We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves and The Jesus And Mary Chain - Psychocandy

John Maus's third album is a nice outing. starting with opener 'Streetlight', then straight onto the best track on the first side, 'Quantum Leap' which propels itself rockingly along with a nice bassline and very appealing synthesizers. 'And The Rain' is ok, and then 'Hey Moon' is simply mesmerizing with stunning vocals all over the track. 'Keep pushing on ' is a intense epic from start to finish. 'The Crucifix' move along nicely into "Head For The Country' which is memorable. 'Cop Killer is slightly humourous, and 'Matter of Fact' is hilarious.'We can Break through' has some good vocals and 'Believer' is simply breathtaking, this album WMBTPCOO, has some good moments on it and is really John Maus's breakthrough album where he really cracks right onto creating something with a pop sensibulity, but futuristic and has an attitude, whether it be slightly humourous in parts. 8/10

Psychocandy by The Jesus And Mary Chain is a seminal classic album. with literally stacks of feedback layering all around to make a terrific wall of sound. the attitude. the chaos. the passion of these tracks is simply brilliant. Opening Track 'Just like Honey' opens with bass drum and a snare crack like Ronnettes Be My Baby. and just is filled with moments of pure joy. 'The Living End' is filled with venom. 'Taste the Floor' is toxic. 'The Hardest Walk' is an early standout track. 'Cut Dead' a nice slow song just to get you ready for... 'In A Hole' sheer brilliant wall of noise that hits you in the face with pleasure, searing metallic guitar 'Taste Of Cindy' is ok, and 'Some Candy Talking is heavenly, 'Never Understand' me is good, 'Inside Me' is ok, 'You Trip Me Up' is great Somethings Wrong and Its So Hard are grand also. in all Psychocandy is passionate, stirring in parts, resilient, hard hitting, sombre. its really got everything from a punk album, plenty of attitude and songs to boot. 9/10

Brian Eno - Another Green World and Giorgio Moroder - Knights In White Satin

Another Green World is , without a doubt, very experimental, with pop edges. Brian Eno finds himself on 'Sky Saw' the opening track, with metallic sounds could be a guitar I don't really know. 'St Elmo's Fire' is a nice slow song with lyrics 'In the cool august moon' its got some amazing electric guitar work too. In 'Dark Trees' an instrumental track with nice guitar. 'The Big Ship' is truly excellant probably the best song on the album that will get played over and over again as you find yourself lost in its momentary lapse of awakening. 'I'll Come Running' it sweet experimental pop reminiscent of Roxy Music. Eno's lyrics I want to be the wandering sailor' tells you that Eno is up for a ride. Another Green World is full of Instrumental gems and it seem Bowie and Eno at this stage in their Careers opted for instrumental tracks as the music speaks for itself. vocals would just get in the way of these tiny miniscule masterpieces like 'Sombre Reptiles' and 'Another Green World'. 'Golden Hours' is simply brilliant with lyrics like 'I think its been an eternity' and 'perhaps my brains are old and scrambled' excellant guitar and backing vocals in this track. Perhaps Eno wants us to find a bit of ourselves in his music. its a matserpiece of the instrumental track, but the vocals are good too 9/10

This album by Giorgio Moroder, came before From Here To Eternity, the electro disco pulsating gem. and its definitely in the disco category, but without electro pulses. instead its just live instruments with synth bass and wah wah guitar. Knights in white satin in three parts is electrical. with piano and wah. 'I want you I need you' and sexually stirred, groovy and without a doubt brilliant. Oh l'amour is continuing in the disco vein with strings and Giorgio's rasp seductive vocals, singing in french so its very sensual. Sooner Or later is kind of flat. but I wanna Funk With You Tonight makes up for the last track. brilliant sensual backing vocals. Giorgio  aims to make dance able tunes with a disco futuristic edge, thats what makes this music timeless because, the sounds he goes for are the future, and Giogio is still ahead of everybody elses games. 8/10

Kraftwerk - The Man Machine and Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene

as a whole, Kraftwerk's The Man Machine is an enthralling listen from start to finish. opener 'The Robots' beats along to an almost comical edge. 'Spacelab' is excellent, so Is 'Metropolis'. 'The Model' is the closest they ever had to a pop song. 'Neon Lights' is like an electronic folk ballad. 'The Man Machine' is also brilliant. As a whole, The Man Machine works as a alternative pop hit, with plenty of pop hooks to please, but its a crucial leap for Kraftwerk as its a pop crossover, a massive leap for Karktwerk and a massive leap for synth pop as a genre. 10/10

Jean Michel Jarres Oxygene is overall  pretty good. it ushered in a whole scene of electronic music into the mainstream, and his influence can be heard throughout Daft Punk's music and Justice of course. modern french house and electronica, as well as mainstream western music and electronica there. his concerts are some of the biggest staged of all time. very appealing to fans of electronica and a must listen. 8/10

Throbbing Gristle - 20 Jazz Funk Greats and Saturday Night Fever

Throbbing Gristle's lp 20 Jazz Funk Greats is certainly endearing. opener '20 jazz funk great' rattles along well to drum machine and whispery vocals. 'Beachy Head' is good also, industrial sounds and keyboards set the sinister tone of the album early. 'Still Walking' is synth industrial experimental, with drum machines. 'Tanith' an instrumental track. 'Convincing People' a track of ghostliness and eeriness with Genesis P. Orridge sings 'theres several ways/ to convince people' eery stuff. followed by instrumental tracks and 'Hot on the heels of love' is the best of them, a synth laden electro beat driven magical number. 'Persuasion' is experimetal as they come. with p. orridges lyrcis coming through over a girl laughing. 'walkabout' is another synth driven electro storm of a track. 'what a day' is the best track on the album with an industrial pulse going through it with p orridges lyrcis over the top 'what a day what a day what a day all day'. 20 Jazz Funk Greats is probably their best work as it transpires mere industrial as an experimental genre into something synth electro driven with drum machines, thats pop, that has pop edges, quite soft but quite mysterious at the same time. its experimental but still has some synth pop drive to it. for one of the Uks most original bands.  10/10

Saturday night fever the soundtrack is so dancey . opener stalin alive will get you dancing on your feet. and night fever will keep you grooving. what bugs me about this album is that it really doesnt pick up from there so i'm going to say its good for a party but for artistic merit not so good. it really doesnt hold well as an album more or less a collection of bee gee singles and other instrumental tracks and some sung by other lesser known artists 8/10

Yukihiro Takahashi - Neuromantic and Yellow Magic Orchestra - Solid State Survivor

Yukihrio Takahashi's lp euromantic is certainly a worthwhile listen. guitars by Roxy Musics's Phil Manzanera, opening track 'Glass' is quick highlight and 'Grand Espoir' follows on nicely, 'Connection' and 'New (Red) Roses' are great tracks. perfect little synth pop gems. with nice guitar. 'Drip Dry Eyes' is good too. all in all its a solid album with great tracks, great drumming great singing. good music, great synth sounds and guitar sounds. 8/10

Yellow Magic Orchestra's album Solid State Survivor is a little gem. it features highlights including 'Rydeen' and 'Technopolis' and a cover of the Beatles song Day tripper which i think is actually better than the original track. all in all its quick little number of high paced songs and great musicianship. 8/10

Modern Talking - The 1st Album and Kraftwerk -Trans Europe Express

The First album by Modern Talking is a 'how to do perfect Italo-Disco lesson'. brilliantly devised and produced this is a blast. the first four songs 'You're My Heart , You're My Soul', 'You Can Win If You Want', 'Theres Too Much Blue In Missing You' and 'Diamonds Never Made a Lady'  are perfect emotionally deep Synth pop songs. Incredibly catchy hooks my only trouble is that they don't go for long enough and could be given disco extended mix treatment. 'Lucky Guy' is another Highlight. 8/10

Kraftwerk's Sixth Studio Album is a ride through Desolation. a bleak pouring out of no emotion and robot prowess. The Track 'The Hall of Mirrors is just a bleak sounding haunting electro ballad about movie and film stars changing their appearance in the Hall Of Mirrors. Showroom Dummies is another highlight as here we find Kraftwerk and their most unhinging and seriously in your face. 9.5/10

Saturday 25 May 2013

David Bowie - Lodger and David Bowie - Station To Station

David Bowie's Lodger is an interesting listen, and it is the third in the series of Berlin albums. like Low and Heroes, Bowie is on form but we do not hear any instrumental tracks on Lodger, instead its just sung songs. highlights include Boys Keep Swinging, DJ and Look Back in Anger. 8/10

Station to Station is a classic album, its Bowie in his best career highlight form with tracks such as the title track, Word on a Wing and TVC15. excellent blending of genres such as disco and post punk. STS is clearly one if not the best Bowie album , alongside Low and Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. 9.5/10

Dirty Beaches - Drifters/Love Is The Devil

This album hits you are like a bullet whilst you gather yourself in its wake. opener 'Night Walk' rocks along to a funky bass riff. the whole double lp is atmospheric, just this neon daze you find yourself in. its lo fi, its raw. reminiscent of even Suicide or even early Ducktails. 'Casino Lisboa' is another highlight where the vocals sound like Alan Vega crossed with Ian Curtis. I think as a whole it serves its purpose to reinvent music in a way that has atmosphere and it holds your attention for long enough. 8/10

Donna Summer - I Feel Love

A great point in popular music.

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico and Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup

The Velvet Underground's debut includes songs in genre's such as lounge rock, proto punk and noise rock. it opens with 'Sunday Morning' probably the most commerciable song on here, whilst Nico turns up on 'Femme Fatale'. 'Run Run Run' rocks along to a proto punk beat with a very good guitar solo and feedback very lo fi.. a highlight is definitely 'Heroin' which is simply stunning. it closes with 'European Son' which is simply noise rock as good as it gets. to take away with, TVU&N was released in the 60's, and even bands today are striving for what TVU achieved , lo fi punk rock songs and lounge pop gems. influencing bands like Stereolab and Psychedelic Horseshit. any music critic not worthy this the highest of accolades clearly lacks any sort of credibility. and we are still listening to it in 2013. 10/10

Daft Punk - Get Lucky Music Video

                                           Highlight of the new Album.

Cybotron - Enter and Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

a new genre techno is born. 8/10

the most highly anticipated album of 2013, an ambitious effort. Nile Rodgers guitar work is definitely a highlight, as well as the single 'Get Lucky'. a embracing of late 70s disco and funk, and early 80s techno make for a 'headphone' album that will certainly test out your new set of speakers. Piano and strings, vocoder, guitar all mix into this album and another highlight is the track 'Doin' It Right' featuring Panda Bear. live drums are mixed throughout this album to make a more natural rock sound, a massive leap for Daft Punk. 9/10

Valerie Dore- The Night (Instrumental) and Valerie Dore- Lancelot (Instrumental)

Bronski Beat-Smalltown Boy (Extended Version)

A classic track from the 80's. amazing vocals.

The Cure- Disintegration

classic album.

brilliant music, I highly reccomend listening to this. I think its their best album. the combination of soaring synths, chimes strings, guitar bass and drums makes for a sound unlike anything they had ever produced. fantastic singles like Pictures Of You. leave their mark for years. Plainsong the opener is truly beautiful. 10/10

Savages-Silence Yourself, Deerhunter-Monomania and Mikal Cronin- Mcii

been listening to this bands debut. its solid. reminiscent of The Slits or Siouxsie Sioux. loud guitars and girl power man. 8/10

The new Deerhunter album Monomania, is good. very lo if. bluesy even in some parts. totally rad. good tracks including The Missing sung by Lockett Phundt, Deerhunter guitarist and Lotus Plaza singer/guitarist. and the title track, Monomania. 8/10

Mikal Cronin Mcii. very good. powerpop sounds like the Buzzcocks crossed with Weezer. 8/10

New Cd. Art Brut-Bang Bang Rock & Roll.

I bought this for $5 the other day. Its a British Band, came out in 2005. worth checking out, sharp guitar music and witty lyrics. 9/10

Purchases Today+ Iggy Pop- The Idiot, New Order- Power, Corruption and Lies

Today I bought these. the Iggy Pop vinyl is second hand never been played by the looks of it and was only $20, the New Order vinyl was $40. so all in all it was $60 well spent I think. from my highly commerciable and mainstream music store in my home town of Launceston, Tasmania , Australia, Mojo Music.

Now the Iggy Pop Vinyl. is a classic. one of his finest works he's ever done. including classics like Sister Midnight, Nightclubbing, Mass Production and China Girl. I'm going to give it 10/10

the New Order was is very good, seems to be a naive new order on show very early, came out in 83 and its dancey. i'm going to give it 9/10
